The task this summer is to learn all about the history, people, and events that have shaped our beautiful country of Aotearoa throughout the past two centuries
As part of this journey on day one, we have to state three facts about Maui, here is mine.
Fact 1.
- Māui takes the jaw-bone of his ancestress Muri-ranga-Whenua and uses it as a weapon in his first expedition, to slow the sun down, so that the days are longer for them to do more things like farm more crop, play with there kids and build more houses.
Fact 2.
- Māui wanted to go fishing with his brothers but they keep making up excuses like he was to little but Māui was getting really angry so he thought to prove them wrong by hiding in the canoe (South Island, New Zealand) with his magic enchanted jawbone hook and caught the biggest fish (North Island, New Zealand)
Fact 3.
- Māui is now famous for all the really cool things he has done for us.
- Slowing the Sun.
- Fishing up the North Island
- Maui was a DemiGod that made his parent proud by helping people.
Another story I have heard about is Māui slowing the Sundown with a jaw bone and handmade rope. Maui had lots of help to hold the Sun and slow it down.
I love the facts you have picked out. Maui and the sun was one of my favourite stories as a kid. Cant wait to see what you will post next.....
ReplyDeleteHey Nikoli,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey blogging team! I will be reading and commenting on your blog this summer.
First of all, it's awesome to see that you've decided to join us to go on the exciting Summer Learning Journey 2018! This is a great start to the programme, I will be looking forward to your other activity posts :)
This activity is all about 'Maui and the Giant Fish', one of the most famous Maori myths and legends. Did you like the story? I've read many stories of Maui and I like 'Maui and the Secret of Fire' the best! Do you have your favourite Maui story other than 'Maui and the Sun?
Thank you for sharing 3 interesting facts about Maui! They all look fantastic! It's sad that Maui's brothers were mean to Maui and did not believe in him!
I look forward to reading your next amazing post!
All the best,
Jade C.
