Day 2: It’s All in a Day’s Work. Activity 1: A House or a Home?

Activity1

  • Compare the wharepuni to your own home. Whatare two similarities and to differences brtween a wharepuni and your house?

My house has a roof like the wharepuni, both triangler and we have bitchuman tiles instead of thatching. My house also has walls like the wharepuni, our top level doesnt have normal walls its walls are also its roof.

The wharepuni has more detail than my house, like tiki's and other carvings.

The wharepuni does not have individual rooms like we have, we have a kitchen, bathroom, toilet, lounge and sleeping room all in one building.

  1. Kia Ora Nikoli,

Wow, I thought it was very interesting to see the picture of your house compared to the traditional wharepuni. You're right, they do look similar! I have not seen a house like yours before, what a cool shape.

What do you think it would be like to live in a wharepuni compared to a modern house? Which do you think that you would prefer? I think I would prefer to live in a house because I like having my own space, rather than sharing a bedroom with lots of people.

    Keep up the great work,

    Hazel :)

  2. Hey Nikoli,

Great work keeping up with the Summer Learning Journey. It is so interesting to see all of your posts. I like that you have shared images to help the reader understand what you are talking about. Also, am very proud that you have been Smart about the image you have shared - it would not be easy to find where you live by looking at this photo.
Where do you think the children would keep their toys? And where would they shower?
Look forward to hearing from you!
