Day 1 In the Beginning Activity 2: Setting Sail

To DJ (Our Cat)

Hi it's me and my crew,
I'm off to see the U.S.A, to study the lady of liberty but the only way I could get there was by Waka, sadly my crew has to miss out on the cool view but I can see all of the ocean. We went through 1 huge storm it was so big we got drenched. For food we have been eating fish that was fresh out of the sea, so far we cought 19 blue marlins 21 blue cod.( I cant believe how yum fresh fish is). We have now been on the Waka for 71 days we have 79 days left, I will be on this waka for a total of 150 days. Hope you have a meowtastic time.

From Nikoli.

  1. Kia Ora Nikoli,

I hope that you have been enjoying the Summer Learning Journey so far!

I really liked the letter that you wrote to your cat, DJ. What a good idea translating it so he can read it! I have a cat too; her name is Smeagol (like in Lord of the Rings).

I think that DJ would probably be very jealous of all the fresh fish that you got to eat on your journey. How do you think the people travelling to New Zealand for the first time would have felt? What do you think would be the most challenging thing about moving to a new country?

    Keep up the meowtastic work,

    Hazel :)

  2. Hey Nikoli,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey blogging team. Well done for completing another activity, I really liked how you wrote the letter to your cat! You have a very good imagination and full of creativity! I also love the translated version of your letter, it made me smile :) What else did you eat other than the fresh fish? Perhaps you could have explained a little bit more about your storm and what your actions were to prevent your boat from tipping over!

I can't wait to read another post of yours soon!

    All the best,
    Jade C.
